Senior Spotlight #1
Secondary School
In a rush, the year has flown by, and senior graduation is approaching. Over the next few weeks, we’ll highlight each student from our wonderful senior class. We are immensely proud of them for striving in their academics, investing and becoming involved in our community, and taking steps to develop their character and to act as leaders.
At our school for about two years, Insung C. has delved into AP and Honors classes, including AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, Honors Philosophy, and more. He has joined Model United Nations (MUN) and taken part in theater. He shares his favorite memory during his time here was Senior Departure Seminar (SDS), which took place in March of this year. “Senior year was the best time because I could build relationships with others, which was harder in 11th grade when I was still adapting and didn’t have as much time.” Following graduation, Insung will focus on applications to universities in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and nearby countries. “My major will definitely be Computer Science. After university, I would like to be a programmer or have a job related to Computer Science.”
With more than five years under her belt at our school, SoHyun C. has taken 17 Honors and AP classes, including Honors Robotics courses, Honors and AP World History courses, AP Statistics, and more. She has joined Student Council, MUN, Science Fair, theater, and a number of clubs with focus on science, art, and speech. She has taken part in service trips to Yunnan, Chang Bai Shan, and Chiang Rai. She shares her favorite memories have been with friends. “I especially enjoyed hanging out in the Senior Lounge and tackling challenging AP classes together. Spring Trips and other school trips are a big part of my TIS experience, as they helped me connect more deeply with the culture here and grow closer to my friends.” SoHyun has applied to universities in the U.S. and Singapore and may apply to universities in Korea. With a great passion for science, SoHyun is considering several different majors – psychology with biology, science education, and robotics. “I would like to pursue a career related to my major, either by continuing my education with a degree or finding a job in that field.”
“I am the first student at TIS to have attended from Foundations Class all the way to Senior year, and I have been at TIS for 15 years.” Samuel F. has gone above and beyond during his time at our school. He’s taken AP and Honors classes, including AP Calculus BC, Honors Chemistry, and Honors English I and II. Alongside his education at our school, “I have also been enrolled in the French Education system since first grade and am currently completing my French Baccalaureate exam this year.” Samuel has further participated in soccer and MUN. He shares some of his favorite school memories have been spending time with friends on Spring Trips. Now looking ahead, he’s applied to universities in France and Germany. He’s considering the five-year engineering program at the Polytechnique Institute of Advanced Sciences (IPSA) in France, “where I will obtain the French ‘D’Iplôme d’ingénieur.’”
NaKyeong K. joined our school almost three years ago and has fully embraced the community. She has taken a number of AP and Honors courses, including AP Psychology, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics, Honors Robotics, and more. She has been Student Council President, joined MUN’s media team, taken part in Winter and Spring plays, been part of and led clubs, participated in an internship for the MAC department, and more. She shares her favorite memories have been all sports tournaments, particularly volleyball, TIANMUN events, her internship, SDS, and competing at the ACAMIS VEX National Championships. Now on the edge of graduation, NaKyeong has applied to universities in the U.S. and has committed to Northeastern University with a major in Communication and Media Studies.
DoYeon K. has been an Eagle for three years and has deeply invested in her education and friendships. She’s taken AP Psychology, AP Calculus, AP Biology, Honors Choir, and more challenging AP and Honors courses. She has taken on different roles in MUN, joined the volleyball team since her arrival, and supported our theater program as a member of the makeup team. She says she has two favorite memories at our school. “One of them is this year’s Fall Camp. My whole class played with water guns and had so much fun together. I’ll never forget the joyful atmosphere we shared that day.” Her second favorite memory was SDS, where she learned vital information about life beyond school. “They taught us about financial management, time management, and even how to deal with a difficult (crazy) roommate. I felt like those lessons were really preparing us for adult life.” Following graduation, DoYeon will attend an art university in Seoul with the pursuit of commercial art for her future career.
Well done, Insung C., SoHyun C., Samuel F., NaKyeong K., and DoYeon K. on finishing strong. We’ll be cheering you on both at graduation and as you enter into the next stage of life. You will always be remembered by our teachers and students and will be welcomed back anytime. Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!
