We had wonderful time connecting with ECC and Elementary parents on Thursday. Our Head of School, Mr. Witt, reflected on the school year as well as provided his thoughts on the 2022 - 2023 school year. ECC and Elementary Principal, Miss Barsalou, informed us about all the happenings leading up to the end of the school year. We’re not too far away but there is still some key events waiting to happen.

Re-enrollment - 2022 - 2023 School Year

Re-enrollment for the new school year as begun. Re-enrollment packets were emailed on Wednesday, if you didn’t receive it, please contact the Admissions team or head to the “Enrollment Information - Returning Students” section at https://www.tiseagles.com/en/admissions/overview

REMINDER: Travel Advice and Protocols

IMPORTANT: A negative COVID-19 test result needs to be submitted to the school, if your child travels anywhere outside of Tianjin, before they can come back on campus. Please connect with the Admissions team, if you fall into this category.

Due to the recent domestic COVID-19 situation, the Tianjin Municipal Education Committee and the Municipal Education Working Committee are addressing school regulations and protocols. Please take the time to read through the guidelines and protocols below.

  • DO NOT leave Tianjin, if not necessary. If you need to leave Tianjin, you must report your destination and return date to the school. Please connect with one of our liaisons with this information.
  • If you are travelling, please ensure you:
    • carry sufficient protective supplies during the journey
    • pay close attention to personal hygiene
    • maintain social distancing, and
    • actively cooperate with health monitoring staff working in public transportation areas and epidemic prevention management.
  • DO NOT go to medium to high-risk areas. Those returning to Tianjin from counties, cities, and districts that are medium or high-risk areas will need home quarantine for 14 days. A COVID test with a negative test result will be required after the quarantine period and before a return to campus is permitted.
  • According to the requirements of the Municipal Prevention and Control Bureau, persons returning to Tianjin from low-risk areas must obtain a negative COVID test within 48 hours of their return. Only when a negative COVID test is obtained will a return to campus be permitted.
  • Due to the uncertainty of the current COVID-19 situation, those who will travel should be prepared for home quarantine.
  • Anyone who has been to infected areas identified by the Municipal Prevention and Control Bureau, has residence history in those areas, or has a connection with infected person/s shall follow the guidelines and protocols set in accordance by local authorities of Tianjin.
  • If you have left and returned to Tianjin, a 14-day body temperature record should be logged and reported to the school.

The Municipal Epidemic Prevention and Control Bureau will announce updates to the epidemic situation in a timely manner. The general public should pay close attention to the changes in the epidemic situation; do not panic, do not spread rumors, or believe in the rumors. If you receive a risk warning text message, your complex is locked down/under control, or find that your health code has changed, please DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL, immediately report this to your community authorities. Please co-operate with the authorities who are operating in strict accordance with the city's health management requirements.

This week Dogwood and Maple classes had a great time watering and monitoring the seeds they planted last week.

This week Cherry class was able to plant some seeds in the garden, and they will finish next week.

This week on Friday, the rain kept them inside, and they could not finish planting carrots and radishes.

Elementary

Elementary Spring Concert

Next Friday is the elementary spring concert. All elementary students should wear dark pants and socks. They will be given a shirt from the school to wear for the concert. Please watch your email and the TIS Notices group for the most up-to-date information.

Middle School

8th Grade Parent Meeting

Mrs. Cotton and Mr. Delzer will explain the TIS high school experience focusing on courses, course selection, credits, and progress toward graduation. The focus of our conversation is highlighting the high school program. All the information we will present can be found in the 2022-2023 Course Catalogue emailed earlier in the week.

Spring Concert


May 6

With our secondary concert coming up quickly, students are reminded to try on their concert clothes now. If they have grown, there is still time to get new clothing for the concerts. As a reminder of proper dress:

Boys: White dress shirt, white undershirt, black tie, black pants, black belt, black shoes, and long black socks. (blue, grey, and other colors are not acceptable) All of the uniforms must not have a visible logo from far away. Jewelry is also not allowed on the uniform, especially on shoes & shirts. Pants and socks should be long enough that the audience will not be able to see bare legs while students sit on the stage.
Girls: White dress shirt or blouse, black pants or skirt, black shoes, and black socks/stockings/nylons. (blue, grey, and other colors are not acceptable) All of the uniform must not have a visible logo from far away. “Bling” jewelry or other decoration is also not allowed on the uniform especially on shoes. For girls’ skirts, please make sure they are long enough to be modest when the child is sitting down, as students will be sitting on stage.

Middle School Party


May 6

The middle school party on Friday, May 6 was well attended. We ate plenty of yummy food and were able to play together. The House leadership did a good job of preparing games for us all, and overall it was a good time to build connection and community.

Spring Trip


May 6

The middle school is looking forward to our spring trip week May 23-27. During this time, students will be traveling to JiXian, the northern part of Tianjin, to engage in activities to build knowledge of themselves and others. During the time they will participate in service, team building activities, and some opportunities to learn about the outdoors. It is also planned for students to have a one night campout. More information will be coming soon. If the situation changes and we are unable to travel to JiXian, alternate planning will be announced.

AP Testing


May 6

AP testing for high school students continues into next week. Teachers of students taking AP tests have actively adjusted their curriculum to reflect the rigors of the time, creating instruction with more student choice and freedom regarding when the work needs to be completed. But there is still ½ a quarter left this year and many more things to learn in class! Encourage your children to continue to work hard, pressing onto the end!

Senior Presentations

Senior presentations are scheduled for the week of May 16-20. This is a time for students to share about themselves and their growth through this point in their lives. Students have prepared presentations, sharing their worldview and how they reflect the school’s learning goals in their presentations.
