Principals' Pen

ECC & Elementary

Dear Parents,

SAFETY WEEK has been great! BIKE, FIRE, BUS and ONLINE safety have all been covered.

Bus riders practised evacuation drills that taught them what to do in the event of an emergency. The ECC and Elementary students enjoyed this drill that one of the students stated, “This is like parachuting! Can we do this every week?” Check out one of this week's WeChat post for pictures of Safety Week.

Today in assembly, bike safety was the focus! Students were able to discuss key points on bike safety and the importance of helmets. In the ECC, students practised crossing the street, while in Elementary, students learned how to ride a bike on the road safely. Bike safety on the road is vital, especially since I know many of our students love riding their bikes at home.

Next Wednesday is Principals’ Coffee. Come and listen from other principals and me on recent school life. As usual, there will be a time for us to meet and share over coffee and snacks. I look forward to seeing you there.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting things happening in the months of November and December in the ECC and Elementary. Over the years, these months have been an excellent time for our classes to bond as students experience different holidays and celebrations.

Lastly, the next ECC and Elementary Parent Observation Day will be on Wednesday, November 24. Please check your inbox next week for an email with sign up details. We will have one parent observation day per quarter, so if you cannot make this day, there will be another day available later this year.

You'll continue to hear from me during this school year through these letters, as I hope to provide you with details of life in the ECC and Elementary. Have a lovely weekend.

Warmly,

Miss Barsalou

Secondary School

Dear Secondary Parents,

Look to hear from me regularly during this school year on the happenings in the Secondary School. There is always activity in the secondary wing, and it is very pleasing to see our students getting involved in various ways.

Safety Week
This week we spent time focusing on several safety areas:

  • Bus Safety
  • Car and Bike Safety
  • Home Safety
  • Online Safety

Did you know that poisoning, drowning, falling, choking, and burns are the most common severe injuries in the typical household? Students processed this and several other key points about being safe in their lives. As part of the week, students practiced evacuating from school buses, learned about fire extinguishers and fire evacuation masks. Over the weekend, I encourage families to discuss home safety. As a family knowing how to respond to emergencies, like earthquakes, fire, getting locked out of the house, is a good practice. Check out the school’s WeChat account for pictures from Safety Week.

Athletics
Every year ISCOT schools have three athletics seasons: Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer. The focus of middle school teams is to learn about sportsmanship, staying active, and having fun. High school teams play more to win, and that is the goal for our varsity teams. Student athletes are considered students first and need to be successful in their academic pursuits before participating in Athletics.

The high school basketball season and middle school volleyball season have recently started. Parents, you’re invited to come to our home games to cheer on your children and our TIS teams. Your participation means a lot to the student athletes.

I want to commend our high school boys soccer team on their efforts in achieving second place in last Saturday’s Zzangmaru tournament. They were disciplined by training hard leading up to the tournament and played very well to reach the final. Congratulations to KIST for taking out this year’s tournament.

Mid-Quarter Reports
Next week is the middle of the second quarter, and teachers will be writing comments for those with unsatisfactory grades or behavior. These comments will be viewable through PowerSchool. I strongly encourage you to write or meet with your child's teachers whenever you feel the need to support your child's learning.

As we near the end of a semester, it is important to note teachers have grading deadlines to meet. Students with outstanding assignments past grading deadlines will not have those grades applied to their semester reports. Please support the students and their teachers in helping students address delinquent work early!

Senior Pictures
12th grade students have been invited to take portraits with our school photographer or on an individual basis for their special yearbook pages. They have also been fitted for caps and gowns in anticipation for graduation in the spring!

I hope to see you all on November 17th, our next Principal’s Coffee. Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
Mr. Delzer
