JiWoo Kim
Alumni Spotlight
Alumna JiWoo Kim, class of 2023, attended our school for 14 years.
She took part in Yunnan service trips, participated in soccer, basketball, and volleyball, and took 16 AP courses. JiWoo was accepted into Seoul National University (SNU), Korea University, and Yonsei University. She returned to our campus and shared some updates since she graduated.
JiWoo attended SNU, then enrolled at Yonsei University College of Dentistry, where she will study for six years. “It’s two years of pre-dental school, about just learning about basic sciences, and then four years of dentistry,” she says. The first two years will cover courses in biology and chemistry. For the following four years, the program will focus on the muscles of the mouth and how to perform dentistry procedures.
“Ever since I was young, I always wanted to be a dentist. That was what everybody knew. So, when I got into high school, I also really enjoyed learning biology and doing dissections.” JiWoo says she’d like to use her career in a servant-minded setting, helping people around the world in the medical field. She shares that she enjoyed attending our Yunnan service trips for two years and that they “empowered me to do service.” Though she hasn’t decided on a particular location where she’d like to work, she says she’s open to most places.
As she studies at Yonsei, she says one of the challenges she expects to face is the competition in the Korean education system. “I will be going to school with the smartest people in Korea. So, that’s something I’m kind of scared about and kind of nervous about.” However, JiWoo notes she’d like to have many experiences in her school life, such as joining sports teams. “I think I really had a valuable experience here in TIS doing things outside of studying, too. That’s kind of rare in Korea.”
JiWoo began attending Yonsei last March. We are excited to see how she will use her skills to serve others around the world.
