As the largest extracurricular activity with over 70 members, from 7th grade through 12th grade, MUN is a valuable and established tradition at TIS. MUN is designed to expose students to international issues, policy-making and the activities of the United Nations. Students will also gain skills in public speaking, research & writing, negotiation, powers of persuasion, leadership, organization, and interpersonal communication. Students will apply this knowledge and expertise in the role of United Nations delegates in a minimum of two conferences each year.

At TIS, students also have the incredible privilege of hosting, TIANMUN, a conference with over 350 students from 12 schools from all over China every year in October. This allows for skills learned to be practiced as well as leadership opportunities in running the conference. In the spring, students will travel to conferences in either Beijing, Qingdao, or Shanghai. If a student participates in MUN every year in middle and high school, by the time they graduate they will have attended a minimum of 14 conferences with the ability to participate in more if desired. This ensures that students receive lots of practice and can grow in public speaking, critical thinking, and writing, as well as making connections with other motivated and driven students from all over the world. With this experience, students will be well-versed in current issues and already have researched and worked towards solutions with others. Therefore, Model United Nations is an incredible resume builder and college-readiness program. Public speaking and debate experience will also yield benefits post-college and prepare students for the workplace and future political arenas. TIS is proud to offer, promote, and maintain the strong tradition of Model United Nations and encourage all who desire to join.
