Christmas Bazaar

Thank you to all who came out to the Christmas bazaar; a wonderful time was had by all. This year, more of our very own students were involved, in both the program and also running booths to raise support for worthwhile causes.

This year’s program was a little different because it boasted more TIS talent than in the past. Christmas music and songs were performed by our very own Mum’s Choir, directed by Rick Emerson and accompanied by Rachel Choi.

TIS’ very own accomplished students also performed in the program; singers Elizabeth Tan, Adalyn Smith together with Elizabeth’s dad on the piano. Amy Li, Joshua Smith, Eric Li, Kitty Wang sang a Christmas favourite, “Feliz Navidad”. The Carmen children, Anna Mae, Lucas and Micah, all played the violin for us. NaRae Kim, Martin Kim and Sophia Kim played beautifully on their guitars. This year, we also had a Flute Quartet: Cindy Jang, YiTao Wang, Elaine Sun and JiMin Park, all of whom will also be playing at the upcoming Secondary Christmas Concert (Dec. 7). And a special thank you to Olina Yao (ECC T.I.) and the special appearance by Santa Claus!

Together, with the above difference in the program, students were involved in the running of numerous booths for the expressed purpose to raise funds for worthy causes:

  • G & J Shop (TaeGeon Kim, HyunJoon Park, Junghyeok and JiMin)
  • Fun and Good Stuff (Smith Children)
  • Lee’s Bookstore (SeongBin and SeungHyeon Lee)
  • Photo Booth ( a few 5th Grade led by Madelyn Hoffman and Anastasia Flauhaut ~ raising funds for the Cambodian School)
  • Upcycling and Fun! Fun! Balloon (The Laos Service Trip Team (10th) for supplies for the children over in Laos where they will be serving during the Chun Jie break)
  • Rainbow Friends (Iris Kim, Yea Kim)

The Student Service Club ran the “Carnival”, which was overseen by the Executive Team: Donghyuk Ahn, SuHwan Lim, SuMin Kim, DaEun Kim and SeYeon Park.

DongHyuk and SuHwan also ran the Hearts ‘n Hands booth. Hearts ‘n Hands enables deaf Chinese to earn a living by making handmade items. SuMin helped out too as well by checking in on a few of the Carnival activities. DaEun and SeYeon were extremely busy selling Hot Chocolate!

This Bazaar truly reflected what TIS is all about, a caring community and family.

We are very proud of your children, our students and would also like to thank those families who were selling items for the expressed purpose for those less fortunate. We would also like to thank all the other vendors that chose to spend their Saturday selling their wares at TIS. And thanks again to all who made it out to the Christmas Bazaar.

From the TIS Health Office

I want to encourage you to take advantage of holiday travels outside of China to catch up on immunizations. The tetanus booster is currently restricted inside China so please check your child’s records to ensure that his/her tetanus is current. For 5th-12th graders, a current (within 10 years) tetanus vaccination or waiver is required before spring trips 2020. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Health Office at nurse@tiseagles.com. Wishing you a safe and healthy Christmas holiday.

Mrs. Christine Gilbert, RN

AQI Reminder

With the recent days of poor air quality, you may be wondering what the TIS policy is for student outdoor activity. Here is a brief summary:

The facilities manager monitors and reports the air quality index for the air outside our school twice daily. Based on the findings, the administration and teachers are notified if action needs to be taken to modify student activities. The best air quality levels allow all students to engage in strenuous activities outside (AQI of 100 or less). Moderate air quality levels allow students with respiratory illness to refrain from participation in strenuous activities (AQI of 150 or less). Poor air quality may require that outdoor activities be modified (AQI of 150-200) or cancelled (AQI above 200).

Here is an important reminder about school closure and delays. In the case of heavy snow, dense fog, heavy rain, or extremely poor air quality, school may be delayed or canceled. In such cases, information will be posted on the TIS website. Additionally, messages will be sent out through the TIS WeChat channel, and an e-mail will be sent to all parents.
