Hear from the Head
TIS Family,
2024 is already off to an exciting start for Tianjin International School. Life is always happening here, so I trust you are resolute to stay current on information. To be resolute means to be admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering. Each new year provides natural transition points in our lives to intentionally make a resolution concerning something we desire to begin or end. I want to challenge you to be resolute in participating in the Tianjin International School community in 2024. Participating in the life of the school provides rewarding opportunities for you to build relationships and make lasting memories in your life and our children's lives.
Welcome New Families
We are excited to welcome all new families joining TIS this Semester. If you are new to our school community, we look forward to the time we will have together and the relationships we will build. For everyone else, join me in welcoming these families into the community with our warm reputation for supporting families through transition. So, welcome, and if there is any way we can assist you, please do not hesitate to ask.
New Foreign Staff Member
To continue with great news, I am excited to introduce Mrs. Betty Mesfin (Mrs. M) as our new Robotics Teacher. Mrs. M joins the TIS community with her family, including two children in the ECC. We look forward to seeing how her experience and knowledge of robotics strengthen the learning environment for our students as this program continues to expand in future years.
There are only three weeks between now and the Spring Festival holiday, but we and our children will have plenty of opportunities to grow together as we begin 2024 strong.
See you soon!
School Wide Announcements
Updates to student assignment grading
Starting on Monday, the following steps will be implemented when assignments are not submitted on time:
Grades 1-5: The assignment will be automatically marked as missing in PowerSchool. Grades will be reviewed at mid-quarter and parent contact will be made if a student’s grade is below 70%.
Grades 6-12: The assignment will be automatically marked as missing and be given “0”. This includes if a student is absent* and there are no exceptions. Parents will be emailed if their student has at least two zeroes in one class.
* "0"s are changed when work is submitted. Absent policy allows students to miss class for school functions without being penalized.
MAP Testing
Kindergarten to Grade 10 students will undergo MAP testing from January 15 to January 26.
Levels and ELS
After-school Levels and ELS classes will resume on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. starting next week, January 15.
