Dear Parents,
I am excited as we look ahead to SCIPMYLO next Friday! This fun-filled event is always a highlight of the school year, and we can't wait to cheer on our students as they participate in games, races, and team-building activities that celebrate school spirit, perseverance, and healthy competition.
SCIPMYLO is a wonderful opportunity for students to show their enthusiasm, teamwork, and athleticism, all while having a blast outdoors. We encourage everyone to come dressed in their house shirts, bring their energy, and be ready for a day full of fun!
I would also like to thank our amazing PTO for their generosity and thoughtfulness during Teacher Appreciation on Wednesday. Your support, from the kind messages to the delicious treats, made us feel truly valued and appreciated. I am grateful to be part of such a caring and engaged school community.
Let’s keep the excitement going as we count down to SCIPMYLO — we’ll see you on the field next Friday! Specific ECC information will be sent out in ClassDojo on Monday.
Warmly,
Miss Barsalou
Secondary
Dear Secondary Parents,
What a great two weeks we have had on campus. Eighty High School students, collectively, have taken over 200 AP Exams! These exams are a culmination of their learning all year long. High scores in these exams help college admissions, and for schools in the United States and some in Korea, they can equate to college credit. We have had several students who have gone to the United States for university and skipped semesters and their entire first year because of all the AP Exams they excelled in. I’m grateful to our teachers who have tirelessly and expertly helped prepare our students well, and of course, for our students who always do their best and perform well! I’m sure students are excited to get some well-deserved rest this weekend. Well done, students!
A few weeks ago, we had an amazing Secondary Choir Concert. Next Thursday, our Secondary Band will also perform an unforgettable concert. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. I personally love hearing our sixth graders play their first big song and then seeing each grade level play more and more complex music. Busing will be provided to and from the event. I hope to see you there!
In just two short weeks, Spring Trips will also be happening. Every Spring, TIS takes the secondary students on week-long trips in China. The purpose of these trips is to expose students to the land, culture, history, and people of China. Our students and teachers will be traveling all over this beautiful country. We have students going to Xi'an, Henan, Inner Mongolia, Guilin, Shangri-La, and Hainan. Each trip allows students to experience the unique food, culture, and people in our host country. Students will also have special opportunities to perform acts of service to show love and compassion to others. Additionally, these trips create memories and friendships that last a lifetime. If you have any questions, please contact a liaison or your child’s trip leader.
Thank you,
Mr. Way

After-school ELS
Next week is the last week of Secondary and Elementary after-school ELS classes.
SCIPMYLO
Dear Parents,
SCIPMYLO is a fun day where students compete in field games and build community and memories that last a lifetime. SCIPMYLO has been a beloved school tradition for decades, and it was special to celebrate it as an all-school event last year. We are excited to announce that we are continuing this year with the second annual all-school SCIPMYLO.
SCIPMYLO will once again be an official House competition comprised of teams of
students of all ages, and it will be held on Friday, May 23. The winners will receive the SCIPMYLO Cup, and all points will go towards the end-of-year House Cup. We would love to see you at SCIPMYLO and receive your help. Here is some basic information about the event.
Students will arrive on their regular buses that Friday and leave on their usual bus routes at 2:15 p.m.
What to wear: Please have your child wear their House shirt. If their House shirt has gone missing or no longer fits, you can purchase a new one at the HUB. We also encourage you to purchase and wear a House shirt. Some games involve water, so students should be fine getting a little wet.
Lunch: This year, the school will be purchasing Papa Johns for every student. Extra pizza will be available for parents to purchase. Children who do not want to eat Papa John’s can bring a home lunch.
Volunteers: With SCIPMYLO being school-wide, we need your help for it to be successful. We need 60 parent volunteers to help us run this event, so if you are available and willing to help, please let us know by signing and submitting the attached form to your child’s divisional secretary by Friday, May 16.

4th Grade Events - Parents Welcome
Fourth Grade will be having two special events in June. On June 4, parents are invited to join us from 12:35 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. to our Annual Minority Group Expo. Students have been working on an informative essay, diorama, and artifact about a Chinese minority group. Please join us for this special event.
Also, we will have our end-of-the-year Business Day on June 5 from 12:35 p.m. – 1:20 p.m. Again, parents are welcome to come to see how their child has learned about a money system, working with others, and being innovative by creating their own business. We can't wait to see you there!

For the safety of students during extracurricular activities and travel, a tetanus booster shot is also required by the school. TIS requirement of Tdap/DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis three-in-one) is five doses for Grades 1-8. Students must have a booster dose of Tdap after the age of 10 and before Grade 9. In compliance with the recommendations of the CDC/WHO for the safety of all students and in preparation for upcoming TIS Spring trips, all students in Grades 5-12 are required to have a current tetanus vaccination. The tetanus vaccination may be given as either childhood DTaP or adult Td/Tdap and should be updated every 10 years. Our records indicate that some students are due for the Td/Tdap booster since the last shot was about, or more than, 10 years ago. The tetanus booster is not available in China for children older than 12, so getting it outside of China is our best option right now. Please check your children’s immunization records and make plans to obtain this vaccine while traveling outside China. If your child missed this vaccination or others, the holidays are a good opportunity to get a catch-up shot. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep TIS a healthy and safe environment.
