ECC & Elementary
Dear Parents,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at Principal’s Coffee on Wednesday! We had such a fun and meaningful time together connecting as a school community. We are especially grateful for your participation and thoughtful questions. It truly makes these gatherings valuable.
It was also exciting to see so many parents joining their Elementary children for lunch. Your presence makes the lunch hour extra special for the students, and it’s a great way to share in their daily school experience.
Next week, we are also launching ECC Outdoor Classroom Parent Involvement Days. Beginning Wednesday, parents are invited to take part in hands-on learning experiences with our youngest students. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time outdoors with your child, engage with their classmates, and see how our outdoor learning space helps nurture curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity. More details about sign-up times and activities will be shared through your child’s teacher.
Elementary Clubs are getting ready to start! Clubs are a fun way for students to try new interests, discover talents, and build friendships across grades. Please watch for information coming home next week about which club(s) your child has been placed in, along with schedules and starting dates.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for International Day, which will also be a very special celebration of our school’s 40th Anniversary! This is one of TIS’s key traditions, where our community comes together to honor and showcase our diverse cultures. We invite parents and children to wear their country’s traditional dress on this day. Families are also encouraged to contribute by preparing a booth, food, or cultural activity to share with the school community.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement. It truly enriches the life of our school. We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events!
Warmly,
Miss Barsalou
Secondary
Parents,
We’ve had a wonderful week. STUCO had a retreat last week and planned their activities and initiatives for the year. We are so excited for all they have planned and how they add positively to our school culture.
It was also wonderful to see everyone at Principals' Coffee. I was particularly struck by Mr. Witt’s presentation. It was remarkable to see that although TIS has changed significantly these past 40 years, our ethos has remained the same. Our values and teachers remain the cornerstone of relationship building and holistic education. We are proud to continue our tradition of excellence in a loving environment. I look forward to celebrating our 40th anniversarry in two weeks on International Day.
As many of you know and have already signed permission slips, the whole Secondary will head to JiXian next Thursday through Friday for Fall Camp. (Seniors will leave on Wednesday after school.)
Fall Camp is a great time when students will bond as Houses and as a school. They will play games by House, which have been planned by House Section Leaders; they'll also have structured free time to build connections.
I wanted to share a few details for the trip.
Transportation:
Grade 12 students will leave school from TIS at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, by school transportation.
Grades 7-11 will leave school from TIS at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, by school transportation.
All students will return to TIS on Friday, September 19, and take their normal buses home. Depending on travel time, we will either take the 3:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. buses home. Communication will go out that afternoon on when we will leave the school.
Packing List
Clothes for two days
Toiletries
Snacks (Though every meal will be provided, some students enjoy bringing snacks.)
Water Bottle
Sunscreen/Sun protection
Money for snacks to and from JiXian. (We will stop at rest stops along the way.)
We will be in the mountains, so a light jacket might be needed for nighttime.
Please note that if your child needs to take daily medication, it needs to be given to our school nurse to be included in the medical bag by Monday, September 15.
Phones
As part of our standard trip procedures, students will have limited access to their phones during the day and will not have them at night. The usual parent updates will be sent in WeChat during the trip. If you need to contact someone on the trip, please contact our MAC Department or liaisons, who will then contact a teacher on the trip.
I'm looking forward to another memorable Fall Camp. We will see which House will win!
Sincerely,
Mr. Way

AP Self-Study Sign Up
An email has been sent to all students and parents regarding AP Self-Study Sign Up. Please review this email with your student and complete all action steps before the deadline of November 14th.
AP self-study means the student will take an AP exam, but there is no class at school for that subject. Your child must study alone, find their own books and materials, and prepare outside of class time.
TIS will help with registering for the exam and allow for students to test during the May AP exam dates but not with teaching the content.
