CHINA DAY ~ Friday, 9th February ~ this year’s focus: Sui/Tang Dynasty
“China Day” is a school-wide event to enhance what our students have learnt in their Chinese classes. Students spend a day immersed in Chinese related activities that will further enrich their education about our Host Country.
First and foremost, it is a “normal” school day, meaning that we keep to the same beginning and ending school hours and the main focus is for our students.
On this day, It is encouraged for ALL students to wear either traditional Chinese clothes or please wear something red. Theatre Arts does have quite a nice selection of Chinese clothes if you do not have anything to wear for this Day.
Yearbook Make-Up Pictures – Wednesday, January 17
Any students who did not already get their pictures taken in the fall, will have their picture taken on Wednesday, January 17. This includes all new students and any students who were absent on picture day in the fall.
Lost Property – LOST & FOUND

Our ECC children have adjusted well to the start of the second semester. We are all very happy to be back at school.
Reminder: To help with our planning, please remember to call the school by 8:30 in the morning if your child will be absent.
Second quarter report cards should have been sent to you by the school. If you have not yet received your child’s report card, please contact the ECC secretary, Mrs. Dong. If you have any questions about the report card, please contact your child’s teacher through email, communication notebook, or in person.
ECC Health Fair
We will be hosting our ECC Health Fair this coming Monday from 8:30-11:40. The theme for this year is ‘Eating the Rainbow’. We will learn about the types of food we can eat to help our bodies grow and be strong. They will also have their height/weight checked and have a simple vision screening. Please ask your child what they learned!
After School Clubs
After School Clubs will begin the week of January 29th. A letter was sent home with descriptions of the clubs being offered 2nd semester. Please select your clubs and return the letter by Wednesday, January 17th. Students should plan to go home at 3:30 until clubs begin, unless other arrangements have been made.
If your child has a health concern or injury that requires them to miss out on PE class or other activities please send in a note from the doctor. We need this note to excuse your child from class. It will also help us to know how we can best help your child during this time of recovery.
Grade reports have been uploaded to PowerSchool in DocBox. Please log in to check your child’s grades and comments from the second quarter.
On January 29th and 30th the 3rd through 5th grade students will be taking part in the WrAP assessment. Students have been preparing for this throughout the year in their writing classes. It is an opportunity for them to continue to grow as writers.
AQI Policy Change
After more research and discussion, we have decided that our ECC/Elementary children will stay inside for PE and recess whenever the AQI reaches 200.
It has been a great start to the third quarter. Students returned to classes on Monday with excitement and anticipation of a successful semester. Parents are encouraged to keep track of their children’s growth throughout the term by using PowerSchool. Do not hesitate to contact teachers or Ms. Zhao our secretary with any questions you may have regarding grades or the use of PowerSchool.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in classes, has contributed to fund raising and has come to PTO Teas last Semester. It’s been so good to have time together and in the same way, support the work of the school and our students. Following our PTO cake sale and the Christmas bazaar, we have now raised enough money to buy all the safety equipment for the Climbing Wall. Subject to training our instructors, we hope that students will soon be able to start climbing!!
A particular thanks to students in the 6th and 8th grade Chinese classes who donated money to our funds by carrying out an auction in their classes. We are very thankful for your efforts in this!
