ISC Music Festival ~ 23th & 24th March

This year, we will have a Band director of 26 years of experience from Montgomery, Alabama as our iSC Fine Arts Festival Band Director.  His name is Ron Pence.  Accompanying him will be his percussion instructor, Darren Holbrooks.  Our Choir director will be Matt Gaines.  A previous choir director of TIS.  Click the links to read about them.

Special Needs Summit

On March 12, 2018, TIS will be hosting a meeting organized by the Olive Tree Development Center in Singapore. The trainers will share about effective strategies when managing children with learning and developmental disabilities. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the development of children and how we can better meet their needs.

March Madness

March Reading Madness will begin next week in the library during student library times. This year’s featured author is Eric Carle, most famous for his book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a children’s picture book designed, illustrated, and written by him. His distinctive collage illustrations in his books make him a unique author and the activities we do during March in the library should be informative and fun! Talk with your child about their March library activities and encourage them to read some of Eric’s books!

Speech Meet

The students are preparing for the annual Elementary Speech Meet. This is an event that all Elementary students take part in, as a way to develop their public speaking skills. The classroom Speech Meets will occur this Wednesday through Friday, March 14th – 16th. The winners of the class Speech Meets, top 2 students in each category will have the opportunity to participate in the Speech Meet Celebration the morning of Wednesday, March 28th.

Super Saturday Soccer

We are preparing for our spring Super Saturday Soccer season and we are currently looking for coaches. If you would be interested in coaching a team, please contact Ms. Barsalou (danibeth.barsalou@tiseagles.com) by Friday, March 9th. We need coaches for boys and girls teams in both age brackets: 1st – 2nd grade (9:00-10:00 a.m.) and 3rd – 5th grade (10:00-11:00 a.m.). Super Saturday Soccer is scheduled for the following dates: April 14th, April 21st, April 28th, May 5th.

Middle School Model United Nations: DIMUN

7th and 8th grade Model United Students are in Beijing this weekend for their annual DIMUN event. We wish these students well! Any questions about this activity can be directed to Ms. Standifird, the MS MUN director.

With DIMUN, the middle school MUN season comes to an end. Thank you all who were involved in this activity this year. We hope you enjoyed the experience, learned much, and are planning on participating again next year!

 

Principal’s Coffee

The next Principal’s Coffee will be held on Wednesday, March 7th, starting at 10am in the Auditorium. It will highlight what our students have been doing the past months as well as share information about what is coming next. Hope to see you there!

 

Co-Curricular Activities

  • The middle school basketball season has begun. We wish this year’s basketball teams a successful season.
  • This week the middle school has begun practicing for the Spring Play. All are excited for this chance to highlight our middle schoolers on the big stage.
  • Contact Mr. Scroggins if your son/daughter is interested in creating things in the Maker-Space.

Parents, on March 7th, please join us at our last principal’s coffee of the year. We are excited to spend some time discussing some of the great things that have happened and will happen yet this year.

 

MUNISC

We wish our students well as they represent us and themselves at the MUNISC competition in Qingdao. We will be sending about forty students, and look forward to hearing about their experience. Please remind these students to speak with their teachers about missing class and completing the work they will miss.

 

ISC Fine Arts Festival

We look forward to seeing the completed work that so many students are working on right now. If you can, please join us on Saturday, March 24th for this event.

AP Exams

As students are challenged to learn material at this advanced level, please encourage them in their struggle. AP courses take a significant amount of work, but remember that our teachers are prepared and excited to help your student. Before your child becomes overwhelmed with the challenge, please encourage them to speak with their teacher about extra assistance. AP students asking their teachers for extra help is a normal routine for AP courses.

Athletics Announcement

Season 3 Athletics have begun and we are excited about the High School Soccer teams and the Middle School Basketball teams.  For this current season in total we have 3 high school soccer teams and three middle school basketball teams.  As the teams begin practices and preparation for the season we want to remind you that you are always welcome as a parent or fan to jump on the bus with us and come watch your children play.
