TIS Annual Book Fair & Teacher’s Wish List

The TIS Annual Book Fair will be held November 8 – 10 in conjunction with the Parent Teacher Conferences.  This year’s sponsor, Beijing Foreign Language Book Store, will bring over thousands of titles for our students to choose from. On top of the convenience, all your purchases will enjoy a 10% discount. Parents also have the opportunity to bless their child’s classroom library collection by gifting books  from the Teacher Wish Lists. We hope to see you there!

 

AMIS Successful Auditions

AMIS stands for the Association for Music in International Schools.  It is an extremely prestigious International Music Association that attracts the top musicians from around the world.  A successful audition takes months of daily practice, and it is very competitive.  Please join me in congratulating the following students who earned a successful audition into the AMIS Honors Ensemble:

Fine Arts Celebration

Christmas Charity Bazaar ~ Saturday, 9th December

Flu Shot Clinic Letter

In cooperation with Tianjin United Family Hospital, TIS will offer a flu shot clinic on campus Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon in the TIS health clinic. Services are available to all TIS staff, students and their families.

 

Please follow these guidelines:

  • Email nurse@tiseagles.com to make a reservation before November 1. Please include name, grade and birthdate for each student and/or family member.
  • Children under 7 may not receive the flu shot on campus. You may take your child to TJUFH. Their flu shot hours are Mon-Thurs 9-3:30 and Saturday 9-4:30pm.  (Children under 2 years old need to make an appointment.) T: 5856-8500
  • Children under 9 who have never had the flu shot before will be required to have two doses, one month apart. They may receive the first dose at TIS and the second dose will need to be at TJUFH. See above hours.
  • Each person receiving the flu shot must complete three (3) consent forms(click the link below). These are required by TJUFH for all persons. You may print them out or pick up copies in the health clinic.

  3. Flu Shot Form (CDC requires that this MUST be filled out on Chinese form; English translation has been provided to help you.)

Please bring them with you to the clinic on November 8.

  • Please bring 130 RMB cash per person to the clinic on November 8.

(All grade 1 students MUST have a parent present at time of flu shot administration. If no parent is present, no shot will be administered.)

Book Fair

The Book Fair will take place Wednesday – Friday (November 8th – 10th) in the 2nd floor Landing. It is a great opportunity for you and your child to pick out and read books together. Please make sure to stop by to take a look. There will be Teacher Wish Lists posted near the book tables if you are interested in buying a book for your child’s class.

ECC Parent Conferences

Upcoming – Donuts with Dad

Calling all Dads!! We hope you can join us on Monday, November 13th from 9:30-10:45 a.m. for our special Donuts with Dads day! This event is just for dads or grandpas…if you are unable to attend, we invite you to write a special note to be read to your child on that day. More details will be sent home on Monday.

Super Saturday Soccer

We had a wonderful fall season of Super Saturday Soccer. Thank you to all who participated. Please join us again this spring for more exciting soccer matches.

Elementary Parent Conferences

We are looking forward to meeting with you on November 9th and 10th at our Parent-Teacher Conferences. All parents are required to attend this first conference. Due to the number of parents, we can help with Chinese translation, but parents need to arrange for other language translation needed for the conference. Your children are invited to accompany you, but they will be expected to sit outside their classrooms during the conference. Elementary students should not enter the ECC. The teachers will provide a few items outside their classrooms to occupy the students during your conference. Please arrive a bit early to get your children settled. You will receive notice of your pre-scheduled time by this Friday, November 3rd. If you have any questions or if you are unable to attend your scheduled meeting, please contact the elementary secretary, Mrs. Zhang, at ext. 310.  

 

 TIANMUN Conference

The annual TIANMUN conference will be held on November 9-11. Middle school MUN students will be working with high school students to put on this annual MUN event held at TIS. Students will be solving the problems of the world and working on their public speaking, debate, and research skills throughout the weekend. They are expected to wear professional clothing on those days. Please contact Ms. Standifird for more information.

 

Middle School Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences are on November 9th and 10th. Students are dismissed from school at 11:30am and busses will run at 11:45. There will be no lunch offered to students before dismissal. Students in MUN will remain on campus to prepare for TIANMUN beginning that day. Students should arrive at their scheduled time for conferences with their parents. They will discuss their performance and development toward our TIS Learner Goals using a portfolio of their completed work so far this year. Scheduled appointments with advisory teachers were sent home on November 1st. Please sign and have your son/daughter return the form to the middle school secretary to ensure you are aware of the time. If the time does not work for your schedule, please call the middle school secretary to make another appointment.

 

Teacher’s Conference

There will be no classes on November 16th and 17th as all TIS teachers will be attending a conference.

 

Thanksgiving Holiday

In observance of the American holiday of Thanksgiving, on November 23rd, TIS will have an early dismissal. Classes will convene on November 24.

 

 

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are next Friday for the high school. If you would like to request a meeting with any high school teacher, please contact the school. Teachers will be available all day Friday, and we encourage you to take this opportunity to meet with them.

 

Teacher’s Conference

There will be no school on Thursday, November 16th and Friday, November 17, as all teachers will be participating in a valuable educational conference.

 

Tutoring Opportunity

Students that are interested in tutoring other students should provide their contact information to Zhang Rong. Please indicate name, subject, age range, language spoken and contact information. Please note that we are only housing this information, and that all contact and arrangements should happen between the interested party and the tutor.

 

 

TIANMUN 

TIANMUN is this week! We are looking forward to hosting a great event this weekend. As twelve other schools will be joining us for this great weekend, please encourage our students as they are able to put into practice all of the hard work that they have been preparing. Also, please take time to thank Mr. Way and Ms. Wang for the hours that they have committed to ensure that this event is prepared and organized.

  • HS Basketball Tryouts start on Monday, November 6th
  • MS Volleyball Practice starts on Tuesday, November 7th

 

Any students are welcome to try out for the HS teams and come to the MS practices.
