Welcome back, Ms. Cayobit!
New Staff Introduction
We welcome Ms. Glenda Cayobit BACK to our community!
Ms. Cayobit joined our school in 2008 and taught 3rd-grade students for three years. Now, in her return, she is our 5th-grade English language arts, character education, and homeroom teacher. She also teaches English, character education, and math to our 6th-grade students. “It’s exciting to be in the new campus because when I left TIS, it was in the old building,” she says. “I feel I can still find my way around most the places here, and it’s so good to see some former staff I worked with in the past, and it’s just like coming back to an old home."
Alongside her time with us in 2008, Ms. Cayobit has seventeen years of teaching experience. She holds a bachelor's degree in English and Literature and her certification in teaching. For the first four years of her teaching experience, Ms. Cayobit taught in her home country of the Philippines then had the opportunity to work overseas for the first time. She moved to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, which is an American territory, where she taught as a 1st-grade teacher for three years. Following a short period of rest in the Philippines, she joined our community for her first experience in China.
After her three years with us, Ms. Cayobit moved to Nepal for two years, where she volunteered for an international humanitarian non-profit organization. She learned the native language and trekked to villages to educate people about gender equality and to provide support to medical staff. Ms. Cayobit’s position as a humanitarian volunteer continued for three years following her return to the Philippines. She then continued her work as a teacher by joining our sister school in Wuxi for seven years. In 2023, Ms. Cayobit returned to the Philippines to reconnect with family and friends. She is excited to now return to our school.
As Ms. Cayobit has skillfully taught elementary students of all grade levels in multiple subjects, she uses her experience to ensure success in her classrooms through structure. “I’m a very structured teacher. I like structure in the classroom, so that could be physical or even mental structure.” She explains that at the beginning of her lessons, she’ll share goals and expectations with students so they have a vision of what to accomplish.
To further support classes’ success, she organizes her classroom so students know where items belong so they can save time. “It’s also teaching the students to be mindful of their time, be organized with their things, and, as teachers, we model these things that we want them to learn, and it starts in the classroom.” She explains students can expect continued growth through the year and to be challenged.
Ms. Cayobit loves to dance, travel, and be adventurous. “I believe that having new experiences helps you to become a better teacher. It gives you a broader perspective about the world, about the people, which enriches me also as I continue to do my work in class.” Welcome back, Ms. Cayobit! We are delighted you have returned!
