Hear from the Head

TIS Family,

International Day

International Day is a dedicated time for us to celebrate the diversity that exists within Tianjin International School. On a typical day, blending our vast cultural differences creates the unique culture of the TIS family. However, on International Day, we celebrate our respective home cultures by intentionally sharing them through clothing attire, activities, performances, and food. Today, we honored our homes and celebrated each other’s homes.

Today represented the beauty of the Tianjin International School family. As I consider the day from start to finish, my heart is warmed by the love of so many people who worked together to create this unique cultural education opportunity for our children. The connections and visible celebrations from Foundations Class to 12th Grade moved me even more. Our school’s authentically-welcoming community is unparalleled, and it is precisely the kind of place I have always desired for my children’s education.

Courage

The LifePlus October Quality for Life is courage. Having courage in your circumstances means there must be something fearful about the situation. Courage would not be necessary if there were no fear of failure. Therefore, having courage does not mean that you are not afraid. It means you recognize failure as a possibility but move forward anyway. Be Courageous!

LifePlus Athletic Tournaments

Many of our Secondary students will participate in the two LifePlus athletic tournaments this month. On October 17-19, TIS will host the High School Volleyball Tournament for the first time. Please come support our boys and girls throughout the tournament. The following week, our soccer teams will travel to WuHan for the LifePlus Soccer Tournament. If you see these student-athletes, please encourage them.

It is always a joy serving our school family.

Take Action. Prevent the Flu!

Flu season is coming. Although not required, we highly recommend getting the flu vaccination to help protect your children and your family. The ideal time to get vaccinated is about a month before the flu epidemic begins. Since the epidemic period varies slightly from year to year, it is recommended to complete vaccination from approximately October to early November. When you get a flu vaccine, protective antibodies remain for about six months and then decrease. Since the symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 cannot be distinguished, the flu vaccination is a must. Even with COVID-19 outbreaks, it is recommended that the flu vaccine is received in a timely manner.

Parents can refer to the following information to consider taking the flu shot:

Tianjin United Family Hospital and the local community health centers (社区卫生服务中心) are providing flu vaccinations on-site until the end of the year, depending on appointment availability and supply.
