Hear from the Head
TIS Family,
The annual LifePlus Basketball Tournament has been an exciting way to end our first week back after the Spring Festival holiday. I trust your holiday was relaxing and filled with opportunities to connect with family and friends. I also trust that you’ll take advantage of the basketball tournament to continue building connection here at the school. If you have not had an opportunity to experience this tournament yet, please join us on Saturday for the conclusion.
Alumni Connections and University visit in Korea
From Saturday through Tuesday, I am excited to share the three areas of connection with the Korean community:
- Four Tianjin International School alumni hosted a two-hour event on Saturday, February 8th for TIS families to learn more about their experiences entering University. A special thank you goes out to Yu SeoYeon, Jeon HyeongJae, Lim SuHwan, and Kim JiWoo. These four alumni have modeled a heart for investing in the next generation, and have already made plans to offer this event again next year.
- Mrs. Cotton, Mr. Way, and I hosted about 25 alumni for dinner on Sunday, February 9th in Seoul. This opportunity was a fantastic time connecting with graduates from recent years. We loved to hear the stories from the past and are encouraged to see where they are and where they are going in the future.
- Mrs. Cotton and Mr. Way joined a LifePlus Principals and University Counselors group to meet with the Admissions departments of six Universities in Korea on Monday and Tuesday, February 10th and 11th. These visits allow universities to learn about our school and the education that LifePlus schools provide. They also offer an opportunity for our leaders to learn face-to-face what the requirements are necessary and what rumors are untrue regarding admissions.
As this week ends, I encourage you to look ahead to the calendar regarding future engagement opportunities.
See you soon!

Health Office
We are in the midst of Winter, and it is the most susceptible time to catch a cold. Because infectious diseases are spreading widely in the city, and it is easy to catch them, we need to pay attention to personal hygiene and keep social distance for prevention. Although not required, we highly recommend getting the flu vaccination to help protect yourself and your family. In addition, as their immunity wanes, some boosters are required. For example, TIS requirement of Tdap/DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis 3-in-1) is five doses for Grades 1-8. Students must have a booster dose of Tdap after the age of 10 and before Grade 9. For the safety of students during extracurricular activities and travel, a tetanus booster shot is also required by the school. Please check your children’s immunization records and make plans to obtain this vaccine while traveling outside China, as the booster shot of Tdap for teenagers is not available in mainland China. If your child missed this vaccination or others, the holidays are a good opportunity to get a catch-up shot. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep TIS a healthy and safe environment.
