TIANMUN and Principals' Coffee

Dear Parents,
Since it's November, we can enjoy the beauty of autumn's colorful leaves, their fall, and the cool, crisp air, which fills me with thankfulness. Each year, I take time to make a list of the many things I’m grateful for, and it always lifts my heart. If you've never tried being thankful for something each day, I encourage you to list one thing you are thankful for as a family and see if it changes the way you view the world around you.
Last Friday, we had a full day at the Elementary, starting with Doughnuts with Dad and ending with the Fine Arts Celebration. It was a wonderful day, and I want to thank all the dads who attended in the morning. After the rest of the day in normal classes, the evening, the Fine Arts Celebration showcased the incredible talent we have at TIS. Thank you for your ongoing support and participation — it truly makes these moments special.
Warmly,
Miss Barsalou

Dear Parents,
It’s been a wonderful fall season with more leaves dropping along with the temperature. November is also TIANMUN time! This is one of my favorite events all year long. Students have an opportunity to debate, research, write, collaborate, and collaboratively work towards solutions to some of the world’s biggest problems. Our MUN Director, Mr. Delzer, Mrs. Zhang, and the student TIANMUN Executive Team have been working hard at planning this event since last spring. Our students have demonstrated remarkable leadership in training, preparing, and organizing this annual event. This year, we have LifePlus schools as well as over a dozen schools from all over China participating. Seventy-nine of our own secondary students are helping either as admin staff, delegates, chairs, or media team members. We're so proud of our students and this incredible event!
Next week, we also have several exciting events on campus. First, Principals’ Coffee will be on Wednesday, November 19. We will get to hear our Jazz Band Club play a preview of some of their music for the Christmas Concert. After that, Mr. Witt will be interviewing some Elementary and Secondary students about their year so far. Afterwards, we can enjoy some coffee, food, and conversation. I hope to see you there!
Then, next Friday and Saturday come see Ken Ludwig's lively adaptation of Treasure Island. The classic tale of adventure and treasure is brought to life with humor and heart. The story follows young Jim Hawkins, who discovers a mysterious treasure map that leads him on a thrilling journey across the high seas. Joined by a motley crew, including the charismatic yet treacherous Long John Silver, Jim navigates a world filled with pirates, danger, and unexpected friendships.
Mrs. Way and her team worked tirelessly to make the adventure come to life on stage. Come see this professional and amazing production on Friday at 7:00 p.m. or Saturday at 2:30 p.m. See you there, matey!
Lastly, on Monday, November 24, our students will present their science fair projects. Top teams will have the opportunity to travel to Chengdu and compete in the National Science Fair in January. This year, students will present their findings in the choir room, so make your way there at the beginning of the school day.
Sincerely,
Mr. Way

Supporting Third Culture Kids: Helping Children Thrive in an International Community
Growing up in an international environment offers incredible opportunities — multilingualism, cultural awareness, and adaptability — but it can also bring unique challenges, including identity questions and cultural stressors.
Join us for a special parent workshop with Mel McCutchan, Director of Odyssey for LifePlus, as we explore ways to help children ages 3–18 manage challenges and build on their strengths. This is also a great opportunity to connect and share with other parents in our community.
