The best moments of China Day
Before breaking for the Spring Festival Holiday, we celebrated our annual China Day, which carries some of our favorite traditions through games and performances, and focuses on a special city in the country. This year, we focused on the historic city of Hangzhou, which boasts its beautiful West Lake, high-quality silks, and tea leaves. Our student body created playdough images to depict these and other iconic representations of Hangzhou.

Within our gym, activities were abundant. We enjoyed face painting, 蹴鞠, Chinese kite flying, ping pong, shuttlecock, professional calligraphers, and more! Friends and family joined together to soak up these moments, making the day even more special.

Our performances added to the day’s joy and festivities. We welcomed teachers, Chinese classes, and independent student groups to lead part of the celebration through their talents. Both our China Day programs opened with a special dragon dance by some of our High School students and commentary from our emcees, Mrs. Emmy Chen and Mr. Isaac McTaggart. In both our programs, there was a graceful umbrella dance. One performance was by our seventh- and eighth-grade girls, and one was by some of our High School girls. Our Head of School, Mr. Ryan Witt, performed amazing magic tricks that left us all in wonder! And we finished out the programs with the continued tradition of singing, ‘我爱你,中国.’

Also in our ECC and Elementary program, our adorable ECC students represented the natural scenery found in southern China through a dance. A group of our fourth- and fifth-grade boys put on a short play highlighting the wisdom and education from Confucius, and our fourth- and fifth-grade girls followed with a fan dance set to the theme of ‘Peach Blossom Spring.’
For our Secondary program, we had many performances! We applauded outstanding dances, which integrated cultures and time periods. We laughed during two hilarious skits and cheered for a student band.
Thank you to all performers! Your diligent work, talent, and humor made this China Day memorable. Thank you to our Chinese Department for your hard work and organization in coordinating the day’s events. Thank you to all staff and volunteers who also made this day a success.
