ECC & Elementary

Dear Parents,

It’s amazing to think we’re already a quarter of the way through the school year! We've had so much learning and lots of fun along the way. Coming up in two weeks, we will hold our first Student-Led Conferences (SLC) in the Elementary school. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share the goals they’ve set and explain how they plan to achieve them.

In the Early Childhood Center (ECC), we’ll continue with our annual Home Visits. These visits offer a valuable chance for teachers to get to know ECC students in their home environments.

Be on the lookout for an email or message from Mrs. Wu regarding your scheduled time slots for both the Home Visits and Student-Led Conferences.

Warmly,

Miss Barsalou

Secondary

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that Quarter 1 is already finished! What was your favorite memory from this first quarter? There are so many for me to choose from, but Fall Camp was very memorable. I love seeing our students bond with each other and their teachers. Our culture of authentic community and high expectations are built during fun events like Fall Camp.

Traditionally, only middle school students have done Student-Led Conferences (SLC), but now all secondary students will participate. What are SLCs? SLCs are a time for students to talk about something challenging and something they enjoyed for each class. They will also evaluate themselves according to the LifePlus 9 qualities to see how they are growing in character. This 15-minute presentation is between the student, their Advisory teacher, and the parent.

In addition to these 15-minute presentations, there will be time for parents

We are excited to have all secondary students now participating in these conferences. Apart from good educational practices, like reflecting on learning, and goal-setting, students also get practice giving presentations A life-long and necessary skill.

Regards,

Mr. Way

Take Action. Prevent the Flu!

Flu season is coming. Although not required, we highly recommend getting the flu vaccination to help protect your children and your family. The ideal time to get vaccinated is about a month before the flu epidemic begins. Since the epidemic period varies slightly from year to year, it is recommended to complete vaccination from approximately October to early November. When you get a flu vaccine, protective antibodies remain for about six months and then decrease. Since the symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 cannot be distinguished, the flu vaccination is a must. Even with COVID-19 outbreaks, it is recommended that the flu vaccine is received in a timely manner.

Parents can refer to the following information to consider taking the flu shot:

Tianjin United Family Hospital and the local community health centers (社区卫生服务中心) are providing flu vaccinations on-site until the end of the year, depending on appointment availability and supply.
