Senior Highlights Part 1

The year is coming to a close, and over the next few weeks, we want to highlight our Seniors. Our Seniors have run to the very end of the race, and during these years at our school, we’ve watched them grow in their education, personalities, and passions. Each student has become a person we’re proud of and know will lead others.

Arriving in her Sophomore year, HeeJin A. has fully embraced her time at our school. She’s poured into her studies and extracurriculars, making so many memories with friends. HeeJin has taken eight AP courses, including AP World History, AP Chemistry, and AP Statistics. She’s also taken the four Honors Classes, Honors Chemistry, Honors Robotics I, Honors Philosophy, and Honors Pre-Calculus. In addition to these intensive courses, she participated in a wide range of activities, including basketball, Model United Nations (MUN), and VEX Robotics Competitions. HeeJin has a strong future ahead of her as she pursues a major in Statistics. She’s looking forward to attending a Korean university and has applied to Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Following graduation from university, she hopes to become an accountant. HeeJin shares her favorite memory at TIS, “was during the 11th grade Spring Trip to Lijiang. One of the best moments was when our whole class worked out together in the hotel gym. It felt like the time when our grade’s bonding really stood out the most. Exercising together and even having little workout competitions made it so fun, and it’s a memory I’ll always look back on.”

Since coming in 7th grade, JiaCheng G. has flourished at our school. He’s taken AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Physics 1, and AP Chinese. He’s joined Choir, Fine Arts Festival, and completed a service project. Looking ahead, JiaCheng will be attending the University of Alberta. “I plan to major in Economics or Computer Science. After university, I would like to work in a field related,” he says. JiaCheng shares his favorite memory at our school was his 10th grade Spring Trip, traveling to the mountainous Yangshuo in Guilin.

JiaQing first came to our school in the second semester of her 7th grade. She has participated in the Medical Club, Service Club, the Jazz Combo Improvisation Band, and Jazz Band. She’s been the Jazz Band Leader and the Senior Class Representative. She’s taken AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics and was the Teacher Assistant for both courses. She also developed a passion with her AP Psychology course. Using this passion, she served as an assistant to our School Counselor, Ms. Kitty Rong, and plans to major in Psychology. She’s already been accepted into the University of British Columbia, McGill University, the University of Alberta, and the University of Melbourne. JiaQing shares, “My favorite memories are from Band, especially when we were preparing for concerts, and also participating in and leading the Jazz Band.”

At our school for three years, JaeHo H. has shown his love of the sciences through Robotics, extracurriculars, and his AP courses, including AP Physics 1, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics 2, and AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism. While JaeHo will pursue a major in Engineering at a university in Korea, he has already used his knowledge and skills to support others at our school and beyond. At MUN, he served as Head of Technology, and he continued in a leadership position throughout this year as the Student Council Vice President. His favorite memory at our school was when he realized he’d take on this role.

Well done, HeeJin A., JiaCheng G., JiaQing G., and JaeHo H! As you attend universities around the world, we encourage you to stay strong and remember, ‘Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!’
