Senior Highlights Part 4
We’re only a week out from our Senior Graduation. This evokes many emotions – elation, pride, and bittersweetness. Our Seniors, whether they’ve been with us since Kindergarten or joined us in their Junior year, have meant so much to us. It’s been an honor to see them grow and thrilling to cheer them on as they’ve accomplished much. While graduation is an end, it’s also a beginning.

Though with us only since his 10th grade, YoungJun Y. has filled up his time with extracurriculars, friendships, and AP and Honors classes. He’s taken seven AP courses, including AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science A, and AP Physics C: Mechanics, as well as several Honors classes, including Honors English, Honors Chemistry, and more. YoungJun has been involved in basketball and volleyball, which is where he’s had some of his best memories at our school. He’s been part of our Student Council, has been a Class Leader, and joined Model United Nations (MUN). He’s also thrived in band and at our LifePlus Fine Arts Festivals. YoungJun has applied to several universities in the United States: the University of California, Davis; the University of California, San Diego; Purdue University; and North Carolina State University. With his university selection, he plans to major in Applied Statistics or Data Science.

Catherine Z. is another of our graduating seniors we’ve watched grow up over the many years she’s been with us. She came to our school in second grade and has become and remained a big part of our community. She’s joined the basketball team every year since her 6th grade and been part of MUN as a delegate, a chair, and a conference manager. Among the many AP and Honors classes she’s taken, a few are AP Computer Science A, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, Honors Ancient World History, Honors Robotics I and II, and Honors Philosophy. Her workload isn’t slowing down, even following graduation, as she plans to major in Biomedical Engineering. With her degree, she shares, “I would like to work in companies such as Johnson & Johnson as an engineer.” She’s well on her way as she’s been accepted into ten United States universities: New York University; the University of California, San Diego; the University of Rochester; the University of Maryland, College Park; Northeastern University; Rutgers University, New Brunswick; the University of California, Santa Cruz; Macalester College; the University of California, Riverside; and the University of California, Merced.

Also arriving in her 10th grade, KeYue Z. has taken all opportunities offered to her. She’s joined our Theatre department as a crew member, served as an admin for MUN, and has thrived in our band. She’s also worked towards the very difficult task of becoming a recipient of the AP Capstone Diploma and is awaiting her results. This requires taking the year-long AP Seminar and AP Research courses and earning a 3 or higher on those final AP exams, as well as a 3 or higher on four other AP exams. She’s taken AP Psychology, AP World History, AP Chinese Language and Culture, and AP English Language and Composition. As she eagerly looks beyond graduation, she prepares to attend Biola University in the United States, where she’ll pursue a major in Psychology. KeYue shares her favorite memories with our school have been, “when we all went to different locations like Yangshuo and Yunnan for Spring Trips every year, and we [got] to experience many different cultures, activities, and food.”
Congratulations, YoungJun Y., Catherine Z., and KeYue Z! Though we’re saying goodbye to our Seniors as our students, we are delighted to have them as fourteen more esteemed alumni who will change the world!
